Coach Ryan started swimming at the age of 5 like most kids do with their local city summer recreational swim team. It really wasn’t until Ryan was in his early teens that his love for swimming started to develop. Throughout junior high and high school career Ryan swam for Rio Swim Club under the direction of Dave Tait and Desert Thunder Aquatics under the directions of Brad Hering and Glen Coy. It was during club that he swam at Junior Nations, set team records and honed his skills in Breaststroke and the Individual Medley. During High School he swam for Dobson High under Jeff Anderson and was runner up at State his junior year in the 100 yard breaststroke followed by becoming state champion and All American his senior year.
After high school he continued his swimming career at The University of Arizona under the direction of the national and Olympic swim team head coach Frank Busch. At The University of Arizona he trained under breaststroke and IM extraordinaire Greg Rhodenbaugh who is now the head coach at The University of Missouri. During his summers in college is where he found his niche for coaching. Ryan was able go back and coach for the team that started him in a life in swimming. After graduating with a Bachelors in History Ryan took a hiatuses from swimming. In 2017 Ryan got back into the swimming community as the Assistant swim coach for the Higley Knights. Ryan will be returning for his second year with the Higley Swim Team.
Outside of swimming Ryan is married with two kids and loves to spend time with his family outdoors, off road and doing mechanical things.
